At Parakletos, we have thoughtfully moved away from the traditional concept of "Life Coaching" to embrace a more holistic and empowering approach. We call it Wellbeing Advocacy. This shift stems from the belief that true personal growth and transformation are driven by individuals, not solely by the person coaching them. While we can learn from the expertise, resources, and guidance of others, the real catalyst for change comes from within.
As Wellbeing Advocates, our role is to provide evidence-based knowledge on human growth through the interconnected dimensions of wellbeing—physical, psychological, social, environmental, economic, spiritual, and artistic. We share this knowledge with individuals who seek guidance so they can identify the different components of their lives—how they think, what they do, and the decisions they make—that may be blocking or limiting their growth.
Our process begins by helping individuals become more self-aware of their patterns of being, which may be impeding their progress toward their goals. We then assist them in creating new intentions aligned with their aspirations and help them develop actionable strategies that they can integrate into their daily lives. By doing so, we act as advocates for the individual's journey of growth, providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive across all areas of life.
While both services aim to improve an individual’s life, they differ in significant ways. Psychotherapy is a clinical approach designed to address mental health issues, emotional disorders, and unresolved trauma. It often involves exploring the past to heal psychological wounds and treating specific conditions such as anxiety, depression, or PTSD. Psychotherapists are licensed professionals trained to provide clinical interventions based on mental health diagnoses.
In contrast, Wellbeing Advocacy focuses on growth, self-awareness, and actionable strategies to enhance overall wellbeing for those who may think and feel that, somehow, they are stuck or experiencing a plateau in their growth. We do not diagnose or treat mental health disorders. Instead, we work with individuals who are seeking to improve their lives in tangible ways—whether through personal development, goal-setting, or enriching their connection to the seven dimensions of wellbeing. While we may address obstacles to growth, our approach is forward-looking, non-clinical, and grounded in the belief that each individual has the capacity to direct their own growth with the right knowledge and support.
At Parakletos, our Wellbeing Advocates are licensed mental health professionals, but their role in Wellbeing Advocacy is not to provide treatment for mental health conditions. Instead, they leverage their expertise to guide and support individuals in achieving the goals of Wellbeing Advocacy, focusing on personal growth and overall wellbeing.

Wellbeing Advocacy is a holistic service provided by Parakletos that empowers individuals to drive their own growth. Wellbeing Advocates provide scientific knowledge about human development across seven interconnected areas of life—physical, psychological, social, environmental, economic, spiritual, and artistic. We help individuals identify patterns in their thoughts, behaviors, and decisions that may be blocking their growth, and then assist them in creating and implementing strategies for meaningful change.
They are generally similar. While Life Coaching often involves guiding individuals toward specific goals, our new term, Wellbeing Advocacy, is a more integrated approach that is client-focused in terms of “coaches” giving directions. It acknowledges that real growth comes from within, and our advocates provide individuals with knowledge and tools to increase their self-awareness. Our focus is on empowering individuals to develop their own strategies for growth, with guidance, rather than directing them to what they are supposed to do.
No, Wellbeing Advocacy is not psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is a clinical approach that focuses on treating mental health conditions and emotional disorders. Wellbeing Advocacy, on the other hand, is a non-clinical service designed to help individuals improve their overall wellbeing by enhancing their self-awareness and equipping them with tools to make positive life changes. It is forward-focused and growth-oriented, while psychotherapy often deals with healing from past trauma or mental health challenges.
Wellbeing Advocates at Parakletos are individuals trained to provide guidance, support, and
knowledge about personal growth and wellbeing. They focus on empowering individuals to
thrive in all areas of life by helping them create intentions and strategies for self-development.
Advocates act as partners in the journey toward growth, providing knowledge on the seven
dimensions of wellbeing.
Wellbeing Advocacy addresses the seven interconnected areas of human experience: physical, psychological, social, environmental, economic, spiritual, and artistic wellbeing. By focusing on these areas, Wellbeing Advocates help individuals create a balanced and fulfilling life.
Wellbeing Advocacy emphasizes self-awareness and actionable strategies that individuals
can apply in their daily lives to achieve their goals and aspirations. Unlike psychotherapy, which
may focus on past experiences and emotional healing, Wellbeing Advocacy is about creating a
roadmap for the future and supporting individuals in their journey toward personal growth.
Wellbeing Advocates do not provide clinical treatment for mental health conditions even though Parakletos’ wellbeing advocates are mental health professionals. If a client presents with mental health challenges that require clinical intervention, we recommend they seek support from another licensed therapist or mental health professional. Our role as advocates is to support personal growth and wellbeing in a non-clinical capacity.
The initial thing to do is to submit a request for consultation. When we receive your request, we will send you a questionnaire to complete. Once we assess your needs, we will match you with one of our wellbeing advocates to begin the process. All services are only available online. Your matched advocate will provide you with their platform to meet.
Overall, research suggests that there is no significant difference in outcomes. The differences in benefits often depend on individual preferences, needs, and circumstances. Online personal service offers greater accessibility, convenience, and cost savings. In psychotherapy services, the evidence supports that online therapy is a valid and effective alternative to traditional in- person therapy, especially when evidence-based approaches like CBT are used. Therapy, we argue that the outcome of online wellbeing advocacy sessions is similar to that of in-person meetings.
Unfortunately, insurance companies do not cover the cost of non-clinical wellbeing services.
Fees are discussed when we respond to your request for consultation. Because our service is online, we will only accept digital payments such as credit cards, Zelle, or Venmo. The sessions are charged within one hour before the sessions.
More details are provided after the initial request for consultation and before the
commencement of the ongoing sessions.
